Research

The National Seniors Productive Ageing Centre undertakes a wide range of research activities into the needs of the over 50s population at work, in retirement and as active and productive contributors to the economy and society. Examples of recent projects include Mature Aged Workers, Volunteering and Active Ageing.

The aim of the Centre's activities is to develop and disseminate high quality research into productive ageing. In particular the focus of current research revolves around 5 core dimensions of productive ageing:

Dimension 1: Adaptable workforce

Dimension 2: Enterprising communities

Dimension 3: Resourcing the new retirement

Dimension 4: Learning and exchanges between generations

Dimension 5: Sustainable environments

For further details on these topic areas, please consult the National Seniors Productive Ageing Centre Research Agenda document Dimensions.

Research Collaboration

Research through the Centre is conducted in two ways. First the Centre conducts its own research internally and with members of National Seniors on issues of topical interest. Second, the Centre works collaboratively with external researchers who are researching in complementary areas either through the funding of projects or as joint contributors to major funded projects.

Funds are available to researchers in two rounds each year. Round 1 closes on 15 March each year and Round 2 on 15 October. For further information see Application Guidelines. Applications for the following categories should be made on the appropriate forms:

•  Projects (Doc | PDF)

•  Matching Grants (Doc | PDF)

•  Student assistance (Doc | PDF)

All applications must be accompanied by a cover sheet (PDF | Doc)

Getting Involved

The research philosophy of the National Seniors Productive Ageing Centre is to be consumer focussed. Research topics emerge from the direct interaction of the National Seniors and the Centre with members and others in the 50 plus age group.

To ensure the ongoing relevance of the research program, people are invited to contribute in any of the following ways:

•  Register to become a research participant on the research register;

•  Apply to work as a researcher or assistant on a part time and/or voluntary basis (link to researcher page); and

•  For universities and schools, take advantage of the NSPAC internship and work experience program (link to internship page)
